The Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership, Inc. was conceived in 1998 by a group of Indianapolis citizens concerned about the continuing high rate of euthanasia in our city. ARPO takes in homeless dogs and cats from local shelters and individual rescuers, vets and treats any illnesses, and finds the animals loving (and hopefully, lifelong) homes that match the animals needs. ARPO is funded solely by donations and is staffed entirely by volunteers. We do not have a shelter, so all of our adoptable animals are housed in temporary foster homes until loving permanent homes are found. ARPO accepts animals of any breed, size and health status pending open foster home availability.

Since ARPO fosters animals in homes, we are able to take in animals needing special medical treatment. We often take in heartworm positive dogs, animals needing surgery, or animals with skin issues. Therefore, we are always in need of money and foster homes willing to help out with these cases. We appreciate all of the time our volunteers contribute and all of the money and in kind gifts our supporters and volunteers provide!
